Welcome to the Old Toy Knitting Shop

At the Old Toy Knitting Shop, we sell vintage/old toy knitting patterns from a large collection gathered over many years. We are keen knitters and now design beautifully reformatted/laminated vintage/old toy knitting patterns in large print and presented in a comb binder; so no more squinting or worrying about spoiling that precious toy knitting pattern.

Also featured here is the work of Georgina Manvell; a very talented knitting and crochet designer whose patterns have been shown in My Weekly and Home & Country (WI) magazines. She is also well known for her work as a tutor at Denman College (Women's Institute) near Oxford. Her most famous pattern is for Little Knittington; a beautiful knitted village. Her new designs will be featured soon; so watch this space!

Bonaparte the skeleton

Make no bones about it this pattern is really super.

Bonaparte is knitted in DK yarn. (A smaller version(Lazybones) is also included in this pattern knitted in 4 ply). Bonaparte measures 30cm when completed and Lazybones 23cm. Lazybones is just the right size to hang in your car or on your computer. The joints are all moveable; his head turns and his jaw moves!!!

Mr Swan toy knitting pattern by Georgina Manvell

The Swan measures 27cm (10.5 in)  from tip of bill to tail when completed in DK yarn. This is a single pattern although the picture shows Mr & Mrs Swan.

Vintage ATS Doll 1939 Wartime

This smart little doll is knitted in 4-ply and measures 13" when complete.Queen Elizabeth joined the ATS and this obviously inspired the design.

Little Knittington by Georgina Manvell

This lovely knitted village is the work of Georgina Manvell ;a very talented designer, who created it for the Home & Country magazine in 1986.

It includes the patterns for the cars,people( standing and sitting),petrol pumps, walls,fences,ducks,pigs,sheep,(no pattern for the pony)shaggy plants,cauliflowers,lettuces,leeks and carrot tops and a suggested pattern for the Knittington High Cross.

Although no specific knitting instructions have been included for the buildings,experienced knitters will find these easy enough to knit if a cardboard model is used as a framework----Georgina has shown some lovely ideas for you to use for the buildings. "The Red Lion" pub; the village shop with a vegetable stall outside and the lovely church with detailed windows.

Or these can be a starting point for your own creations.

All knitted in 4-ply on 2mm knitting needles. 

The village has been reproduced from our collection of patterns and with  Georgina's very kind permission. It is a very rare and special pattern to find now.

It has been reformatted to a new and original presentation with very easy to read print.

The pattern is hot laminated, so will last for years and is further protected in a clear acetate folder with rigid grip spine.

Vintage Pierre the Rabbit toy knitting pattern c1920

Pierre measures 19" when completed and is full of mischief as you can see!!  He is a grey rabbit and wears a blue coat with a white collar and cuffs and a smart red ribbon!

"Hello my name is Old Bear. I am about 20/21" tall. These pictures certainly do not do me justice, but I am a very traditional well shaped bear. I would love to be knitted in some of the beautiful  modern wools and perhaps have some updated eyes! Once completed I would be well behaved and a good cuddly friend"
